Symptoms and Conditions

Oxycodone is essentially used as a pain-alleviating agent. It is used as a quick-release solution for pains that other medications do not seem to be helping. Opioid analgesics are to be prescribed and administered carefully in cases where they are deemed absolutely necessary. It is mostly in cases of chronic and persisting pains that do not fade away with any other medications.

These can contain chronic joint pains or persisting headaches or leg spasms etc. Oxycodone helps alleviate the symptoms promptly and is not usually prescribed for longer periods.

Dosage

The starting dose for oxycodone is generally from 5 mg to 15 mg with an interval of five to six hours, adding up to three times a day. The dosage can be increased accordingly as required. The increase in dosage should be made depending on the patient’s severity of condition and symptoms and the response of the patient to the drug.

The dosage is not advised to exceed 60 mg per day in any case.

Oxycodone and Sleepiness

Oxycodone 30 mg dosage is indeed likely to make one feel sleepy. For this purpose, the dosage is started at lower levels because higher ones tend to create more sleepiness and sedation. The dosage can be increased with appropriate intervals over time because opioid analgesics are such drugs that the body develops tolerance to. With the amplified tolerance, the sleepiness along with other unpleasant or adverse effects gets decreased.

The sudden sedation can also be responsible for hazardous incidents while performing tasks that need extra focus and care like driving or operating big heavy machinery. Therefore, such tasks should be avoided when taken oxycodone or a bigger portion of the prescribed daily dose should be taken before bed.

Other Side Effects

Other than high sedation and sleepiness and potential dangers attached to it, there are also certain other adverse effects. A bunch of commonly occurring with this drug are headache, nausea, stomach ache, dry mouth or shallow breathing, etc. Heartburn and hot flashes may occur too. Respiratory depression is another serious factor to look out for.

Some mental and cognitive-based effects may also spring from oxycodone 30 mg like agitation, irritability, mental fog, confusion or hypersensitivity, etc.

Patients should also be observed and monitored for signs of dependence or addiction and the drug should be discontinued gradually over time to avoid unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
